ORLANDO, Fla.--May 16, 2006--IDS Scheer, the leading provider of solutions for business process excellence, today announced that the company is extending its BPM industry expertise into the emerging area of Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) with the preview of its ARIS SOA Designer here at SAPPHIRE '06. The new add-on module to the ARIS Platform will be available in 3Q 2006.
The theme of SAPPHIRE '06 is centered on Enterprise Services Architecture (ESA), SAP's blueprint for service-based, enterprise-scale business solutions that offer the increased levels of adaptability, flexibility, and openness required to reduce total cost of ownership. It combines SAP's experience in enterprise applications with the flexibility of Web services and other open standards. The SAP NetWeaver platform is the technical foundation for Enterprise Services Architecture. A June 2004 AMR Research article by Eric Austvold -- Plans for SAP NetWeaver? You Will Need ARIS From IDS Scheer - states the following:
"The Bottom Line: Composite application deployment requires process modeling and measurement. If your company plans to create and deploy composite applications using SAP NetWeaver, ARIS from IDS Scheer is a must-have investment."
According to a recent Gartner report, Gartner's Position on Business Process Management, 2006, published February 16, 2006 by Janelle B. Hill, Jim Sinur, David Flint and Michael James Melenovsky:
Most business processes require hardware and software resources to perform functions such as complex processing, the storage and retrieval of information, and connections to trading partners. Many of these functions are available in application systems and software tools, and are designed to be used directly by people and/or to include hard-coded process flows. BPM requires functions that can be called from a BPMS independently of their flow control (since that will now be provided via the BPMS). Technically, the best architectural style to achieve this is service-oriented architecture (SOA). Under SOA, discrete functions are packaged into modular, encapsulated, shareable elements ("services") that local or remote "consumer" parts of the system can invoke in a loosely coupled manner. In addition, a best practice recommends Web-based services (using XML over HTTP).
"We expect our new ARIS SOA Designer to offer customers the best of both worlds," said Dr. Mathias Kirchmer, CEO of IDS Scheer for the Americas. "Whether customers have an existing enterprise services repository from an ERP provider such as SAP or need to graphically design their own services from the ground up, the new ARIS SOA Designer is flexible and scalable to accommodate either scenario."
According to Dr. Kirchmer, the new ARIS for SOA offering complements its ARIS for EA solution which is already a proving its value at NOVA Chemicals, a $5 billion commodity chemical manufacturer that produces commodity plastics and chemicals. The manufacturer selected IDS Scheer's ARIS Platform which offers support for multiple standard EA frameworks, configuration to any customized architecture framework and a comprehensive meta-data repository. "For organizations to realize SOA success, the formula equals SAP ESA plus ARIS for SOA and ARIS for EA," added Kirchmer.
In addition, the new ARIS SOA Designer will offer the following:
-- Builds a bridge between business and IT-- Combines business process description (e.g. EPC), IT process design (e.g. BPEL) and software engineering (UML) making ARIS Platform: -- Single repository for company business and IT processes -- Single tool for Business Analysts, Process Engineers and Software Architects-- Provides high-level process-based building of company Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) and integrates seamlessly into ARIS for Enterprise Architecture-- Allows structuring & documentation of existing Services on the business level in the ARIS Repository-- Integrates ARIS Design Platform with Process Execution Engines of major software vendors, like SAP
