Gartner Introduces Two New Offerings Aligned To Clients' Job-Related Activities
New Offerings For IT Leaders in `Application Management' and `Business Process Improvement'
STAMFORD, Conn.--July 31, 2006--Gartner, Inc. announces two new offerings within the Gartner for IT Leaders product suite. The new offerings are "Application Management" and "Business Process Improvement".

Gartner for IT Leaders aligns an IT leader's specific job-related challenges with the appropriate Gartner analysts and insight, and connects clients to IT peers who share common business and technology issues.

"The Gartner for IT Leaders product suite is designed to help clients spend more time applying Gartner insight to their specific business issues, and less time finding it," said Robin Kranich, senior vice president of research business development at Gartner. "Clients obtain access to their own mini-site that contains role-specific content on gartner.com created specifically for them, creating an easier, more targeted and valuable experience. This content includes activity cycles that organize content around the ways clients plan for and execute on their jobs."

The Application Management offering is targeted to IT leaders with responsibility for application management, development, analysis, integration or enterprise resource planning (ERP), customer relationship management (CRM) and workplace integration/project managers.

"An organization's application management strategy has a direct impact on how well it operates and competes in the marketplace," said Kathy Harris, vice president and distinguished analyst at Gartner. "But the size and complexity of the applications portfolio and the number of projects in play at any given time are increasing. To make it even more challenging, the investment-recovery time of applications has collapsed dramatically to less than two years."

"Application managers are under more pressure than ever to rapidly deliver results across the entire applications portfolio at the same time as reducing the natural disruptions of change," said Jeff Comport, vice president and distinguished analyst at Gartner. "This new offering will help those with responsibility for application management or development to move from the treadmill of application project spaghetti to a strategic, well-managed applications portfolio."

The Business Process Improvement offering is targeted for IT leaders responsible for relationship management with line of business leaders and championing process orientation to achieve operational excellence. Such leaders have responsibilities for business process modeling, analysis, design, implementation and optimization.

"Business processes are key to delivering the organization's vision and keeping its strategy on track, even when conditions change," said Janelle Hill, research vice president. "Since all organizations execute their vision and strategy through daily operations, focusing on continual process improvement is critical to achieving sustained business advantage."

According to Gartner, business process improvement initiatives can transform the way an organization works, but the impact for most organizations is daunting. "This new offering helps clients to break down business process improvement into manageable pieces and make progress at an appropriate pace," said Ms. Hill.

There are now eight role-based offerings available. These include two released in February: "Security and Risk Management" and "IT Infrastructure and Operations". In May, Gartner launched three additional role-based offerings in IT areas: "Business Intelligence and Information Management", "Sourcing and Vendor Relationships" and "Enterprise Architecture". Gartner's original role-based offering, Gartner EXP, is specifically designed for chief information officers (CIOs) and has 3,500 members. In 2007, Gartner will offer role-based access and products designed specifically for technology and service providers.
