Revivio Joins COPAN Systems' Persistent Data Storage Architecture (PDSA) Ecosystem
Revivio Continuous Data Protection (CDP) Ideal Solution for Managing Challenges Associated with Exponential Growth in Persistent Data
LEXINGTON, Mass.--Sept. 18, 2006--Revivio(R), Inc., a leading provider of data protection and application availability solutions, today announced it has joined COPAN Systems' Persistent Data Storage Architecture (PDSA) ecosystem. The PDSA ecosystem represents the first time a group of industry leaders have joined together to create a cohesive end-to-end solution intended to help customers meet the challenges associated with exponential growth in information that after it is initially created, is unlikely to change or be modified, however must be retained and protected, as well as be easily and quickly accessible, long into the future. This category of information is now being classified as "persistent data."

Examples of persistent data include medical records (such as X-rays and CAT Scans), ERP and CRM transaction records, financial records, e-mails, and traditional office documents. In fact, according to industry experts, this classification of data now represents over 70% of the data in a customer's data center and is the fastest growing segment of stored data at the enterprise level today. Corporate governance, regulatory compliance, and reporting mandates such as HIPAA and Sarbanes-Oxley have further driven the requirements to save, protect, and easily access this data for many years - even decades - into the future. However, to date the most prevalent option for IT professionals has been to store these vast amounts of persistent data on very expensive disk storage systems that are far more appropriate for transactional data, or to vault the information to tape, which is less expensive, however presents safety concerns (i.e., lost tapes in transit) and are often times difficult to find and retrieve when necessary.

"Revivio's innovative method of continuously protecting transactional data, so that instantaneously any point-in-time data can be restored or archives recalled, is an excellent example of applications being persistent data aware," said Roger Archibald, senior vice president of marketing and business development, COPAN Systems. "We are pleased to have Revivio as a part of the persistent data ecosystem. The collective focus of storage leaders on helping customers manage their persistent data is an approach that has long been overdue."

"We are delighted to have been invited to join COPAN's PDSA as we view it as a natural fit and progression for Revivio continuous data protection (CDP) solutions," said Michael Rowan, founder and chief technology officer (CTO) of Revivio. "While persistent data may only need to be accessed rarely, customers must have the assurance that it can be easily and quickly restored in the event of a corruption, loss, or disaster - Revivio CDP delivers this assurance. Bottom line, Revivio CDP offers customers the performance of expensive disk storage, at lower than tape storage prices."

Today's news builds upon a joint Revivio and COPAN announcement made on June 14, 2006 in which the two companies declared they were joining together to deliver tightly integrated data lifecycle solutions. The new joint offerings are intended to ensure that customers' data protection, recovery and long-term archiving requirements are met by utilizing the most appropriate data storage technology, throughout the data lifecycle, at the most attractive price point.
