The 451 Group Appoints former IDC Executive as Vice President, Major Accounts
NEW YORK--The 451 Group continues to grow at a rapid pace as it adds technology-industry veterans to help meet the demand for insight into enterprise IT innovation. The independent technology-industry analyst company has added five new analysts to its team in recent months, as well as a new Vice President of Major Client Accounts. Matt Aslett, former Deputy Editor of Computer Business Review, joins The 451 Group as an Analyst for Enterprise Software. John Barr, with over 25 years of experience in the IT industry, has been appointed as Research Director, Financial Markets and Head of EU Research. IT-industry veteran Andy Lawrence joins The 451 Group as Research Director for Eco-Efficient IT. China Martens, previously a Senior Writer for IDG, joins The 451 Group as a Senior Analyst focusing on the CRM marketplace. Paul Roberts, former Senior Editor at InfoWorld Media Group, is now a Senior Analyst in the Enterprise Security Practice at The 451 Group. Matt Aslett joins The 451 Group as an Analyst for Enterprise Software. Matt covers relational and nonrelational databases and other data management software. He is also an expert in open source software and contributes regularly to 451's CAOS Theory blog and to reports produced through the 451 Commercial Adoption of Open Source (CAOS) Research Service. Prior to joining The 451 Group, Matt was Deputy Editor of monthly magazine Computer Business Review and ComputerWire's daily news service.
As Research Director, Financial Markets and Head of EU Research, John Barr covers IT early adoption and innovation in the financial markets at The 451 Group. He is also responsible for The 451 Group's research activities within the European Commission Framework Program. John has over 25 years of experience in the IT industry, initially writing compilers and development tools for high-performance computing platforms. The bulk of his career has been spent in a variety of technical roles for system vendors (Meiko, Convex, SGI, Sun and Intel), supporting their technical compute and HPC customers. John is also active in many industry organizations. He was coauthor of the DTI-sponsored "Unlocking the Grid" report; he sits on the Advisory Board of the Grid Computing Now! Knowledge Transfer Network; he is the driving force behind the Open Grid API for Financial Markets initiative; and is the Chairman of the British Computer Society's Parallel Processing Specialist Group.
Patrick Hill joins The 451 Group as Vice President, Major Accounts. He comes to The 451 Group from IDC and brings over 25 years of sales experience in the information technology and services industry. His previous work experience includes sales and sales management positions at Greenwich Technology Associates, Graypeak Technologies, Xerox Corp and The Meta Group.
Andy Lawrence is the new Research Director for Eco-Efficient IT at The 451 Group. He has been studying, analyzing and writing about the IT industry for more than 20 years and maintained a career as an award-winning journalist and technology publisher before becoming a full-time analyst. Before joining The 451 Group, he was cofounder and Editorial Director of London-based Infoconomy, publisher of Information Age magazine. Prior to that, Andy was the Editorial Director of ComputerWire, a global IT news service. He was also the founding editor of London-based Computer Business Review magazine, where he pioneered critical, in-depth business coverage of the IT industry in the European press.
