Cast Iron Systems' CEO and Former EVP of PeopleSoft to Enhance Leadership Team
SANTA CLARA, Calif.--Compiere, Inc., the premier provider of open source business applications, announced today that Ram Gupta has joined its Board of Directors. The company offers cost-effective ERP and CRM solutions for small to medium-sized enterprises worldwide through its nearly 100 partners trained by Compiere to provide implementation, integration, customization and support services to users.
Gupta was the executive in charge that orchestrated PeopleSoft's 2003 acquisition of J.D. Edwards. This catapulted PeopleSoft from being primarily an HR applications vendor to the second largest business applications company in the world. Gupta, at the time of the $1.8 billion transaction, served as executive vice president of PeopleSoft.
Currently, Gupta is president and CEO of Cast Iron Systems Inc., the world's leader in the fast growing integration appliances marketplace. Since his arrival at Cast Iron, the company has experienced triple-digit growth. Additionally, Gupta sits on the board of directors of publicly-traded companies such as VA Software (NASDAQ:LNUX), S1 Software (NASDAQ:SONE) and Knova Systems (KNVS), as well as privately-held companies including Plateau Systems and Accruent Inc.
"In my 20 years plus in the industry, I have been fortunate to have played a role in transforming the industry from expensive custom applications to more cost-effective packaged applications," said Ram Gupta. "I am now looking forward to helping guide Compiere as the industry evolves and business applications are built and distributed using the open source business model."
Prior to PeopleSoft, Gupta held the position of senior vice president and general manager at WebMD. While at WebMD, he was part of the executive team that grew Healtheon from a single service, $5 million per year startup, to a publicly traded company, generating annual revenues exceeding $300 million. During his career, Gupta has held various management positions at Silicon Graphics, IBM and Tata Consulting Services.
Commenting on Gupta's appointment, Compiere's Chairman Andre M. Boisvert stated, "We are extremely pleased that someone of Ram's extensive qualifications has joined our board of directors. We are confident that his valuable insight will serve the company well and benefit our partners and customers."
Gupta is a member of Mensa Society, holds several U.S. patents and was a recipient of the Computerworld Smithsonian "Search for the Heroes" award in 2000. Gupta earned a Master of Science degree in Computer Science from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
